UP establishes Bharatiya Gyan Parampara Shodhpeeths in universities, colleges
The government of Uttar Pradesh has a plan to teach and study old Indian knowledge in colleges and universities.
These special study centers will be called Bharatiya Gyan Parampara Shodhpeeths.
They will study things like the Vedas, Upanishads, Yoga, Ayurveda, and Indian mathematics.
Each selected college or university will get two crore rupees to start the center.
That money will stay safe in a bank as a fixed deposit, and the center will use the interest it earns.
The college must be very old, at least 50 years, and have more than 5,000 students.
Students can do research and get grants to help them study.
Old handwritten books and rare manuscripts will be scanned and preserved digitally.
People around the world will be able to read the research online for free.
This is part of a big education plan called NEP-2020.
The Yogi Government of Uttar Pradesh issued a detailed policy and guidelines to establish 'Bharatiya Gyan Parampara Samvardhan Shodhpeeth' in universities and government/government-aided colleges.
Each selected Shodhpeeth will receive a one-time grant of Rs 2 crore for five years, kept as a Fixed Deposit with the interest used for operations and research.
Eligible institutions must have completed at least 50 years, have more than 5,000 students, and be recognized under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956.
The Shodhpeeths will promote research on Vedas, Upanishads, Ramayana, Mahabharata, Jain and Buddhist philosophy, Ayurveda, Yoga, Indian mathematics, astronomy, and other knowledge traditions.
Rare manuscripts will be digitized, research published with ISBN and DOI, and findings shared through an Open Access Digital Library and MOOCs platforms.
The initiative aligns with the National Education Policy-2020 (NEP-2020) and aims to make Uttar Pradesh a global centre of Indian knowledge systems.
