East Godavari SP D Narasimha Kishore said there was no political pressure on police investigating the case of medico student Priyanka, who suffered critical injuries after being hit by a car near Prasaditya Mall in Rajamahendravaram.
The SP said the case is being investigated impartially as per the directions of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and that stringent punishment was being sought for the accused.
Priyanka is currently undergoing treatment on a ventilator at a hospital in Hyderabad, and police are in regular touch with her father about her health.
Police received information about the incident from an independent hospital at around 10 pm on August 3 and registered a case that night based on the statement of Priyanka's friend Venkat Durga Sai.
Both accused were arrested, produced before the court and remanded; police have evidence the accused had consumed alcohol and will file a petition on Monday seeking their custody.
