OpenAI Launches GPT-6 Sol and Luna at Lower Cost
OpenAI has introduced two new AI models called GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna.
Sol is meant for harder jobs, such as coding and solving technical problems.
Luna is meant for simpler jobs that need to be done many times, such as summarizing documents.
OpenAI says both models will cost half as much to use through its API as the earlier GPT-5.6 versions.
The company also says Sol makes about half as many mistakes as its predecessor in an internal test.
That test used real conversations in which users had reported incorrect answers.
The results do not mean Sol will always be correct.
People should still check AI answers, especially when mistakes could cause serious problems.
OpenAI launched GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna as additions to its latest AI generation.
The company says GPT-6 Sol makes about half as many mistakes as its predecessor in an internal factuality evaluation.
API prices for both models are set at 50% below the comparable GPT-5.6 Sol and Luna versions.
GPT-6 Sol targets complex work such as coding, software development and technical reasoning.
GPT-6 Luna is designed for high-volume tasks including summarization, information extraction and straightforward questions.
