Free spectacles distributed to 552 crochet lace artisans in Narasapur
Some people in a town called Narasapur make beautiful things with thread, called lace.
Their eyes work very hard, so the government wanted to help them see better.
A big eye check-up day was held on August 9 at a place called the International Lace Centre.
About 700 workers came to get their eyes checked.
Doctors used special machines to test their eyes.
They found that 552 workers needed glasses.
The workers got to pick the frames they liked best.
The glasses were given to them for free, just 10 days later.
Doctors also found 45 people who needed eye surgery for cataracts.
Twelve of those surgeries were already done at a hospital in Kakinada.
Free spectacles were distributed to 552 crochet lace artisans following an eye-screening camp at the International Lace Centre in Narasapur.
The eye camp, held on August 9, screened around 700 artisans using computerised power tests, eye pressure examinations, retinal scans and slit-lamp tests.
The programme was taken up on the initiative of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan to extend healthcare support to artisans engaged in traditional crafts.
Artisans were allowed to choose frames of their preference, and the spectacles were provided free of cost within 10 days of the medical examination.
Doctors identified 45 persons requiring cataract surgery, and 12 cataract surgeries were performed at Sri Kiran Eye Hospital in Kakinada.
