India Ranks Second in Claude Use, But Adoption Remains Limited
India has many Claude users because it has a very large population.
However, compared with the number of working-age people, Claude use in India is relatively low.
Most users appear to be technology and software professionals.
Four states and regions account for more than half of the country’s use.
Indian users often ask Claude to change software, write programs and design websites.
Anthropic says AI helps Indian users finish some tasks much faster.
Indian users also let Claude make more decisions than users do globally on average.
The report says income, internet access and awareness may limit wider AI adoption.
These findings describe Claude use, not all AI use in India.
India is Anthropic’s second-largest Claude market by total usage but ranks 101st of 116 countries per working-age person.
Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Delhi account for more than half of India’s Claude use.
Software-related tasks make up 45.2% of Indian Claude activity, the highest share among countries analyzed.
Indian users spend an average of 14.8 minutes on tasks that would take 3.8 hours without AI, a reported 15-fold speedup.
Work accounts for 51.3% of Indian Claude use, while coursework represents 20.9% and personal use 27.8%.
