Godrej Consumer CEO Sudhir Sitapati Quits Days After Reappointment
Godrej Consumer board was unaware of CEO’s exit plans, chairperson says · livemint.com

Sudhir Sitapati was the boss of a big Indian company called Godrej Consumer Products, which makes everyday goods sold in shops.

Just three days after the company gave him a new five-year job deal, he suddenly quit.

Nobody officially said why he left, but the chairperson of the company, Nisaba Godrej, said things that hinted they were not fully happy.

She said the board did not know he was planning to leave.

A new boss, Aasif Malbari, who used to manage the company's money, took over right away.

Because people were surprised, they sold their shares, and the company's value dropped a lot in one day.

The leaving boss pointed out that the company's shares did better than the market average during his time.

But the chairperson said the company still needs to get better at selling online and using digital marketing.

The new boss promised he would not make any sudden big changes.

Nisaba Godrej

Chairperson of Godrej Consumer Products Ltd

“"Sometimes we want to say very fancy things on these calls of what we're going to do. But it's basically can we roll up our sleeves and get things done with more candour and pace? And I feel that that layer in GCPL is not as strong as I would like it," she said. "So that's what I'm hoping that Aasif will bring with him while continuing all the good things that were built in the last five years."”
