Malaysian Athletes Train at SAI Ahead of Asian Games
Two Malaysian runners came to India for a month of training.
They used a Sports Authority of India centre in Thiruvananthapuram.
Their coach wanted them to see India’s facilities and train with Indian athletes.
He said this would help them prepare for the Asian Games.
The athletes also competed in a track event in Bhubaneswar.
Their coach chose India instead of a European training location because the Asian Games are in Asia.
He believes training in India can improve their race strategies.
He also hopes sports exchanges will bring India and Malaysia closer.
Malaysia held a month-long training camp for two middle- and long-distance athletes at SAI LNCPE Thiruvananthapuram.
Wan Muhammad Fazri and Umar Osman trained under Malaysian head coach Mohamed Azarudeen.
The camp ended on September 10 and supported Malaysia’s preparations for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.
The athletes trained alongside Indian competitors and competed at a World Athletics Continental Tour meeting in Bhubaneswar.
Azarudeen praised SAI Thiruvananthapuram as a “lucky training centre” and said exchanges could strengthen India-Malaysia athletics ties.

Quotes
Mohamed Azarudeen
Malaysian athletics coach and former Indian athlete
“The first thing is exposure, to know what the Indian standards are. My main objective is for Malaysian middle- and long-distance athletes to see what facilities we have in India. The second thing is training and sparring with Indian athletes, which is more beneficial for them.”

“It is very important for us in preparing for the Asian Games. I didn’t choose any European countries or other countries with European standards where they compete in European championships. The Asian Games are a top priority for us.”
