HC halts Haryana from cutting 12,000 trees in Rohtak
The Punjab and Haryana High Court stopped the Haryana government from cutting down 12,000 trees in a 38-acre green area in Rohtak.
This area is called the city's 'green lungs' because it helps clean the air.
The court said the land has become a forest over the past 20 years and should not be used for business.
The judges asked why the government wants to cut the trees and use the land for commercial purposes.
The area is protected by laws that say forests should not be destroyed.

The land was acquired in 2002 for Sector 6 but remained unused and became a forest.
The area exceeds five hectares and is protected under the Forest Conservation Act, 1980, and a Haryana notification from August 18, 2025.
