Minister Urges Farmers to Use Water Wisely Amid El Nino
The water minister in Kakinada, Nimmala Ramanaidu, told farmers to use water carefully because of a weather pattern called El Nino that can make water scarce.
He checked how much water was in a canal and found it was low.
He asked the canal to be cleaned so water could reach all farmers.
He also said farmers should grow crops that need less water.
He wants the government to fix the canal and help farmers quickly.
Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu urged farmers in Kakinada district to use water judiciously amid El Nino.
He inspected water levels at Pithapuram Branch Canal and Yeleru Reservoir Canal Regulator, noting a 7.2‑foot level and 486 cusecs release.
Minister called for immediate desilting of PBC to ensure water reaches tail‑end ayacut and for coordination between irrigation and revenue officials.
He advised upland farmers to prioritize dry crops that require less water and to follow Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan’s guidance.
Officials were directed to modernise Yeleru Canal at the 2/0 regulator and address farmers’ irrigation grievances promptly.
