Jaishankar Calls for Reformed Multilateralism at UN General Assembly
S Jaishankar said countries are having a harder time working together because of conflicts, competition and economic problems.
He said the global system needs stronger cooperation.
He also called for changes to international institutions, including the United Nations.
Jaishankar said decisions should be more open and include more countries.
He described problems with fuel, food, fertiliser and finance as a “four F” crisis.
He also said countries should cooperate on climate change, new technologies, health and supply chains.
During the meetings, India discussed cooperation with Switzerland, Nauru and four European countries.
The countries also discussed trade, technology, defence, education and international conflicts.
S Jaishankar said the global order is under growing stress from geopolitical competition, conflicts and economic disruptions.
He urged countries to strengthen multilateralism and reform international institutions through more participative and transparent decision-making.
Jaishankar highlighted a “four F” crisis involving fuel, food, fertiliser and finance, alongside climate, technology, pandemic and supply-chain challenges.
He called for international frameworks and guardrails for emerging technologies, and for diversifying vulnerable global supply chains.
On the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, Jaishankar held meetings with Swiss and Nauru leaders and attended the first Visegrád Group-India foreign ministers’ meeting.
