Nike made a new racing shoe called the Alphafly 4.

The company says it is lighter and returns more energy than the previous version.

Returning energy means the shoe helps give some of a runner’s effort back with every step.

The shoe uses special foam, a carbon-fiber plate and air-filled pods.

Nike also says it is softer, quieter and more stable than the Alphafly 3.

Scientists tested how runners’ feet and joints move in the shoe.

Runners and athletes also gave feedback during the design process.

The shoe was created for races, especially when runners become tired near the end.

It costs $280 and will become more widely available on October 29.
