NMC Updates India’s MBBS Seat Matrix, Approving 1,40,664 Seats
The National Medical Commission has announced the number of MBBS seats available in India for the 2026-27 school year.
There will be 1,40,664 approved seats, not counting seats at Institutes of National Importance.
This is 13,636 more seats than before.
Government colleges will offer 64,121 seats.
Private colleges will offer 76,543 seats.
The total comes from 839 medical colleges.
Forty-one of these colleges are new and together provide 3,850 seats.
Colleges must admit students only to the seats listed in the approved matrix, though the numbers may change later.
