Babulal Marandi wrote to Amit Shah about what he described as illegal immigration in parts of Jharkhand.

He said people from Bangladesh were entering and settling in the Santhal Pargana region.

He claimed this was changing the population in several constituencies.

Marandi used voter-growth figures from 2019 to 2024 to support his concern.

He also alleged that some people were using fake identity and birth documents.

He said land belonging to the government and tribal families was being occupied.

Marandi accused the ruling party and some local officials of helping the alleged infiltrators.

He asked the central government to check identities, review voter lists and deport people found to be in the country illegally.

Leader of the Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly

“I wish to draw your attention to the rapidly deteriorating internal security situation and the deeply concerning demographic shifts in the Santhal Pargana region of Jharkhand, specifically in the Pakur, Rajmahal, Littipara, and Maheshpur assembly constituencies, among others. The ground reality I witnessed during a recent extensive tour of this entire region serves as a serious warning regarding threats to national security and local tribal identity.”

“In open violation of the Santhal Pargana Tenancy Act (SPT Act), members of the community in particular are systematically occupying government land, grazing land, and the ancestral land of poor tribals. These infiltrators are being settled by creating forged Aadhaar cards and illegal birth certificates,”
