Government seeks three years of Jadavpur University executive council records

A government office in the state that is in charge of colleges has asked Jadavpur University to hand over notes from its most important meetings from the last three years.

A committee called the executive council runs those meetings and makes the biggest decisions for the university.

The office also wants to see notes about extra topics talked about at each meeting that were not on the regular list.

Some people at the university are worried about this request.

They say the government is taking away the university's freedom to run itself.

Others say the government is only doing its job, because there was a problem with two top university workers.

The two workers, the acting registrar and the acting finance officer, got their jobs extended in April.

A group called ABRSM said those extensions were not allowed by the rules.

Because of the dispute, the university had to delay a meeting it planned for August 6.

Now the government is checking the old meeting notes to decide what happens next.
