Australia Threatens Telegram With Massive Fine Over Terror Posts
Telegram is a messaging app that lets people send messages and pictures.
In Australia, a government group called eSafety says some people saw 12 posts that might help terrorists.
Three of those posts are known to be from real terrorist groups.
Because of this, the Australian government might fine Telegram a lot of money.
Other countries, like Russia and India, have also taken action against Telegram for different reasons, so the app is under a lot of pressure from governments around the world.
Australian regulator eSafety cites 12 pro-terror posts on Telegram, 3 known terrorist content, from July–October 2025.
Telegram users complained to the platform about these posts.
Russia recently charged founder Pavel Durov with facilitating terrorist activity, citing Ukrainian spy use.
India temporarily banned Telegram last month for selling leaked NEET 2026 exam papers.
Multiple countries are tightening scrutiny, threatening Telegram's operations.
