Hassabis Steps Down as DeepMind CEO, Named Alphabet Chief Scientist

Demis Hassabis is a very smart scientist who led a Google company called DeepMind.

DeepMind makes advanced computer programs, including ones that play games and help with science.

Now Hassabis is changing jobs.

He will no longer be the boss of DeepMind.

Instead, he will be the chief scientist for Alphabet, the company that owns Google.

He will also keep leading another science company called Isomorphic Labs.

This lets him spend more time on big ideas, like making computers as smart as people.

That big idea is called AGI, short for artificial general intelligence.

Google's leader, Sundar Pichai, says this work is very important for Alphabet and humanity.

Hassabis will stay close to the DeepMind team, so he is not really leaving.
