Allahabad High Court Shifts Lucknow Assault Probe to Police Intelligence
A person and some lawyers were reportedly attacked inside a court in Lucknow on July 21.
The Allahabad High Court began examining the incident on its own.
The court first asked the Intelligence Bureau to investigate the lawyers’ backgrounds.
A government lawyer said that investigation did not fit the bureau’s usual role.
The judges then moved the inquiry to Uttar Pradesh Police’s Intelligence Department.
The state’s intelligence chief will supervise the confidential investigation.
The lawyers have not yet submitted all the information the court requested.
The court will discuss the matter again on September 15.
The Allahabad High Court assigned Uttar Pradesh Police’s Intelligence Department a confidential inquiry into lawyers allegedly involved in the July 21 assault.
The court modified its earlier order directing the Intelligence Bureau to conduct the inquiry.
The inquiry will be supervised by the Director General of Police (Intelligence), Uttar Pradesh.
The court said requested affidavits and disclosures from the lawyers had not yet been filed.
The case will next be heard on September 15, after the court reviewed police counter-affidavits.
