New Income Tax Act Changes Checks for Salaried Taxpayers
A new income tax law in India started on 1 April 2026.
It applies to the tax return people file in 2027 for the 2026–27 tax year.
The tax rates have not changed, but many section and form numbers are different.
Salaried workers should check which tax system their employer is using and make sure their salary and tax records are correct.
They should also compare their claims with their documents and check tax credits against the records available to them.
Form 16 is now called Form 130.
People should keep copies of their forms and supporting documents.
The usual 31 July filing deadline remains, but the new return forms had not yet been announced.
The Income-tax Act, 2025, took effect on 1 April 2026 and applies to returns filed in 2027 for tax year 2026–27.
