Badshahi Ashoorkhana Restoration Resumes in Hyderabad After Three-Year Halt
A very old and special building in Hyderabad, India, is being fixed up.
It is called the Badshahi Ashoorkhana and was built in 1592.
The building is a place where people have gathered to remember and mourn for hundreds of years, especially during a special time called Muharram.
The work had stopped for more than three years, but now it has started again.
One part of the building, called the Naqqar Khana, had a roof that fell down.
Workers are putting in a new, stronger roof made of steel and stone.
They are also carefully fixing old, beautiful tiles from the 17th century.
Some of the tiles got damaged when a river called the Musi flooded.
The workers are being very careful to keep the building looking the way it did long ago.
The repairs to the Naqqar Khana should be finished in about nine months.
Restoration of the Badshahi Ashoorkhana in Hyderabad has resumed after being stalled for more than three years.
The work includes rebuilding the collapsed Naqqar Khana, conserving Persian tiles, and repairing other heritage structures.
The Naqqar Khana's collapsed wooden roof was replaced with steel members and stone slabs, while the front façade keeps existing wooden members.
Naqqar Khana works, including traditional lime plaster, are expected to be completed in nine months.
The 17th-century Persian tile work remains in good condition, though the lower 6.5 feet was damaged by Musi floods.
