FII buys for third week; Nifty falls on crude volatility
FIIs are foreign institutional investors, the big money managers from other countries who buy shares in Indian companies.
DIIs are domestic institutional investors, like Indian mutual funds and insurance companies.
For the third week in a row, FIIs bought more shares than they sold, bringing Rs 1,228.24 crore into the market.
DIIs were even more active, buying shares in four out of five trading days that week.
Even with all this buying, the Nifty, India's main stock market index, went down by 0.8 percent to close at 24,366.
The reason was that crude oil prices stayed high, which makes investors worried.
Earlier in the month, FIIs had sold a lot, pulling out around Rs 8,000 crore and pushing the index down to 23,767.
Since FIIs started buying again on July 28, the Nifty recovered to 24,774 by August 3.
But even after three weeks of buying, FIIs have still sold more than they have bought overall in this period.
Meanwhile, midcap stocks did well, with the Nifty Midcap 100 index hitting an all-time high.
FIIs remained net buyers in India for a third consecutive week, with net purchases of Rs 1,228.24 crore.
DIIs bought in four of five sessions, with the report citing Rs 7,768 crore in net purchases and nearly Rs 9,286 crore elsewhere.
Nifty drifted lower from 24,583 to 24,366, closing the week down 0.8% as crude prices stayed elevated.
Cumulative FII flows remain negative at about Rs 3,174 crore despite three weeks of buying after heavy early-month selling.
Broader markets outperformed, with Nifty Midcap 100 hitting a fresh all-time high, up 0.5%, while Bank Nifty closed 0.4% lower.
