Kolkata Police to Install 59 CCTV Cameras at Central Lock‑up
Kolkata Police are putting in a lot of new cameras at a jail called the Central Lock‑up.
They want to watch people who are being held there more closely, especially when it gets dark.
The cameras will be in the rooms and the hallways, and they can see even in the dark because they have special infrared lights.
They can also hear what’s happening inside.
The plan will cost about 35 lakh rupees and will help police stop fights or escape attempts.

The system will include 54 dome cameras and 5 bullet cameras with infrared and audio recording.
Cameras will cover detainee rooms and corridors, especially to improve night‑time monitoring.
Estimated cost is about Rs 35 lakh, with Rs 8 lakh earmarked for the cameras themselves.
The upgrade aims to detect altercations, escape attempts, and other unlawful activities in real time.
