Bhawana Kanth becomes IAF's first woman 'Top Gun' pilot

Bhawana Kanth is a pilot in the Indian Air Force, the part of India's military that flies planes.

She grew up in Darbhanga, Bihar, and dreamed of flying from the time she was a little girl.

In 2016, India decided to let women fly fighter jets for the first time, and Bhawana was one of the first three women to join, along with Avani Chaturvedi and Mohana Singh.

She learned to fly very fast, tricky planes called the MiG-21 Bison and later the Sukhoi Su-30MKI.

Recently, she finished a very hard 20-week course at a special school in Gwalior called TACDE.

This school is like the 'Top Gun' school from the movies, and only about one out of every 100 pilots gets in.

Now she is the first woman ever to finish it, and she is called a Fighter Combat Leader, which means she is an expert at planning and leading difficult missions in the air.

She has won awards too, like the Nari Shakti Puraskar, a big honour given by the President of India to women who do great things.

She even spoke at a big defence show in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, telling countries that women should get more chances to lead in the military.
