Taiwan Foreign Minister Joins Pacific Summit Events in Palau
Taiwan’s foreign minister, Lin Chia-lung, is traveling to Palau.
He will be there for about a week.
Palau is hosting a major meeting of Pacific island leaders.
Lin will join activities held alongside that meeting.
He will also talk with countries that have friendly relations with Taiwan.
Taiwan says these talks will focus on cooperation and regional peace.
China considers Taiwan part of its territory and has increased its influence in the Pacific.
Only Palau, Tuvalu and the Marshall Islands still have formal diplomatic ties with Taiwan in the region.
Taiwan Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung will visit Palau for a week beginning Thursday.
Lin will attend side events connected to the Pacific island leaders’ summit.
His itinerary includes a Pacific Islands Forum dialogue and the Pacific Prosperity Exhibit.
He plans to meet Taiwan’s Pacific diplomatic allies and other friendly nations.
Taiwan has three remaining formal diplomatic partners in the Pacific: Palau, Tuvalu and the Marshall Islands.
