Borivli RTO Resumes Search for Permanent Testing Site
The Borivli RTO needs a new permanent home.
Its current rented office is in Kandarpada, Dahisar West.
A plan to rent space from MTNL in Dahisar East did not move forward.
This happened after MTNL decided to auction properties.
The RTO also needs much more land than just an office building.
It wants separate tracks for driving tests and vehicle fitness checks.
Right now, some tests happen on a road near homes.
Officials are worried that this could be unsafe for residents, pedestrians and other drivers.
They are looking for a suitable site nearby so people do not have to travel far.
The Borivli RTO has resumed its search for a permanent site after an MTNL land proposal stalled.
Officials are examining locations within three to four kilometres of the existing Dahisar West premises.
The RTO needs about 11 to 12 acres for separate driving and vehicle fitness tracks.
Driving and fitness tests currently take place on a road behind the office, raising safety and traffic concerns.
The proposed 12,300-square-foot MTNL site had approval for a monthly rent of Rs 26.58 lakh, but MTNL’s property auction plans halted the proposal.
