Maoist Leader Akash Remanded to Police Custody Until September 29
Police arrested a man known as Akash, whose real name is Asim Mondal.
A court in Kolkata ordered that he remain in police custody until September 29.
Police say he is a senior member of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist).
They say he is connected to cases involving unlawful activities, sabotage, and subversive operations.
He had reportedly been hiding in forest areas across West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha.
Police say the arrest ended a search that had lasted for decades.
They also say two bags containing Maoist materials and communication equipment were found.
No lawyer filed a bail request for him during the hearing.

Kolkata Police’s Special Task Force arrested him in East Midnapore on Thursday.
Investigators said 33 cases are registered against him across three states, while police sources cited around 55 cases.
Jharkhand and Odisha had announced combined rewards of Rs 2.20 crore for information leading to his capture.
Police said Maoist literature, booklets, and electronic communication equipment were recovered from two bags.
