BIS seizes gold jewellery over missing licences and HUIDs
BIS seizes gold jewellery sold without valid hallmarking licence · thehansindia.com

The Bureau of Indian Standards checked two jewellery shops in Bhadrachalam.

Officials said the shops were selling gold without the required BIS licence.

They also said the jewellery did not have HUID numbers.

HUID numbers help buyers check whether jewellery is properly certified.

Officials seized about 522 grams of gold jewellery from the shops.

BIS said some marks on the jewellery appeared to be false.

The shop operators may face jail or fines under Indian law.

BIS asked customers to check jewellery using the BIS Care app.
