Two Lakshadweep cops missing after boat accident near Suheli
Some police officers in India were doing their job on a boat in the ocean.
Their boat was sailing near a small island called Suheli.
Suddenly, the water became very rough, with strong waves and a whirlpool.
The boat had an accident, and the officers ended up in the sea.
Two officers, Nabeel and Hidayathulla, could not be found.
The third officer, Umar, is a very strong swimmer and made it safely to land.
He called his senior officers to tell them what had happened.
Now many people are searching for the missing officers.
A helicopter is flying over the sea to look for them, and fishing boats are helping too.
The Navy and Coast Guard have also been asked to help find them.
Two Lakshadweep Police personnel — Constables Nabeel K M (34, of Kavaratti) and Hidayathulla K C (49, of Andrott) — are missing after their police boat met with an accident near Suheli, an uninhabited island in Lakshadweep.
The boat, carrying three police personnel on an official patrol, was caught in strong waves and a sea whirlpool at around 10 am on Tuesday.
The third crew member, Umar Farooq of Amini Island, survived by swimming to safety and informed senior police officials in Kavaratti about the accident.
A large-scale search operation is underway, with a helicopter deployed and three boats operated by local fishermen from Kavaratti heading toward the Suheli area.
The Superintendent of Police of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep has asked the Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy, police forces in Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, fishermen and the public to help trace the missing personnel.
