Farmer Trampled to Death by Elephant in Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve
A farmer who lived near a big forest in India went to his farm at night to protect his turmeric and vegetable plants from wild animals.
An elephant came onto his land.
The farmer tried to scare the elephant away.
But the elephant got angry and ran toward him.
Sadly, the elephant knocked him down and he passed away.
The farmer's family and neighbours heard his call for help.
They ran to help him and chased the elephant back into the forest.
People who take care of the forest came to look at what happened.
They are still trying to understand exactly how it happened.
A 62-year-old farmer, Pasuva Chetti, was trampled to death by an elephant in Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve (STR).
The incident occurred around 2 am on Sunday while Chetti was guarding his turmeric and vegetable crops.
Chetti tried to scare the elephant away from his land, but it charged and trampled him.
Family members and neighbours rushed to the spot after hearing his cry and chased the elephant into the forest.
Forest officials visited the spot and an investigation was ongoing.
