Rajasthan Local Polls Revive Charpai, Kettle And Tongs

Rajasthan is preparing for local elections.

Candidates need pictures or symbols so voters can find them on the ballot.

Independent candidates can choose from many everyday objects.

These include a charpai, kettle, tongs, slate and old telephone.

Other choices include sewing machines, grinding mills, vegetables and handcarts.

Many of these objects were common in older households.

Smartphones, laptops and tablets are not among the free symbols.

Recognised political parties will continue using their usual symbols.

This means voters may see old household items representing candidates in a modern election.
