Tight Security Arrangements for Kashmir Independence Day Celebrations
India has a big holiday coming up called Independence Day on August 15, the day India became a free country.
In the Kashmir Valley, a senior police officer named V.K. Birdi said security is fully ready for the big celebration.
He said the event is a "people's celebration" and that police are there to help organize it and keep everyone safe.
Police will check cars and bags at busy places like Lal Chowk and TRC crossing.
Some officers will wear ordinary clothes so they can blend in with the crowd.
Upgraded CCTV cameras will watch streets and public areas to gather information.
Checkpoints are set up at the entry and exit points of Srinagar to check traffic.
The main event will be at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, where Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will raise the national flag and inspect the parade.
Police also said the investigation into recent attacks in Anantnag and Pulwama is ongoing and details will be shared at an appropriate time.
Everyone is invited to come and join the celebration.
