Microsoft Launches MAI-Image-1, Its First In-House AI Image Generator
Microsoft has created its very own picture-making AI, called MAI-Image-1.
It's like a super-smart drawing tool that can make pictures look very real, almost like photos!
This AI is really good at drawing yummy food, beautiful nature scenes, and showing how light looks, even better than some other big AI models sometimes.
It's also fast!
You can find this new tool in Microsoft's Bing Image Creator and Copilot, which helps make pictures for stories.
Microsoft is making more of its own AI tools now, not just using ones from other companies.
This helps them create new things faster and offer users more choices.
However, people in the European Union can't use it yet.
Microsoft is also still using AI from other companies like OpenAI for some of its tools.
Microsoft has launched MAI-Image-1, its first internally developed AI image generator.
The model is now integrated into Bing Image Creator and Copilot Audio Expressions.
MAI-Image-1 is noted for its efficiency in generating high-quality, photorealistic images, particularly excelling with food, nature, and lighting effects.
This launch signifies Microsoft's strategy to develop its own AI technologies alongside partnerships with other AI companies.
MAI-Image-1 is not yet available for users in the European Union.

Company statement from Microsoft's official blog
“MAI-Image-1 excels at generating photorealistic imagery, like lighting (e.g., bounce light, reflections), landscapes, and much more. This is particularly so when compared to many larger, slower models. Its combination of speed and quality means users can get their ideas on screen faster, iterate through them quickly, and then transfer their work to other tools to continue refining.”
