Samoa Election: FAST Party Wins, New Leader Expected
Samoa, a country in the Pacific, just had an election.
The FAST party won the most seats.
However, the new leader of FAST is expected to be Laaulialemalietoa Leuatea Schmidt, not the previous Prime Minister, Fiame Naomi Mata’afa, who formed the new Samoa Uniting Party.
The Human Rights Protection Party also won seats.
The election results were officially announced on Friday.
Five women won seats, and due to a rule about minimum female representation, another seat will be created.
Fiame was previously expelled from FAST.
Laaulialemalietoa is expected to become the next prime minister.
