Navy Chief's Mauritius Visit Deepens India-Mauritius Maritime Partnership
India and Mauritius are two friendly countries that help each other, even though they are separated by the ocean.
Mauritius is a small island nation, and many of its people came from India long ago.
The head of India's navy, Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, is visiting Mauritius to meet its leaders and talk about working together.
India has given Mauritius ships, helicopters and airplanes to help keep its ocean waters safe.
India has also trained more than one thousand coast guard members from Mauritius.
The two countries draw maps of the ocean together, and they even sell those maps.
India has helped Mauritius in many ways for many years, and the visit shows they want to keep helping each other in the future.
It is like two good neighbors sharing tools and skills so that everyone stays safe.
Indian Navy Chief Admiral Krishna Swaminathan is visiting Port Louis, Mauritius, from August 10 to 13 for official meetings.
India and Mauritius have had diplomatic relations since 1948, and nearly 70% of Mauritius's 1.3 million people trace their ancestry to India.
India has delivered warships and patrol craft to Mauritius, including MCGS Barracuda, and trained more than 1,000 National Coast Guard personnel.
A Special Economic Package worth about $680 million was announced after Mauritian PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam's September 2025 state visit to India.
Joint hydrographic surveys have produced charts that now earn commercial revenue, including a $45,000 royalty cheque handed over in April 2026.
Bilateral trade between India and Mauritius now stands at approximately $851 million.
