Blackstone said Meghji wants to spend time with his young family before deciding what to do next.

David Levine and Giovanni Cutaia will share leadership of the real estate unit after he leaves.

Meghji helped Blackstone buy and expand many kinds of properties.

These included apartments, life-science offices and affordable housing.

His departure comes after several other senior real estate executives also left the firm.
