NSUI complaint puts JNTU research grant under scanner
A students' group called NSUI complained that a university in Hyderabad may not have followed the rules for spending research money.
The university was given about 22 lakh rupees for a research scheme in March 2020.
The complainers say the university did not send the papers that prove how the money was spent.
They also say some spending forms were not certified correctly and the proper audit was not done.
After the complaint, AICTE, the organization that checks technical education, said it has noted the problem.
AICTE is now looking at the documents the university sent for the research scheme.
The student leader asked for a fair and careful check of the records on August 7.
He said public money for education must be used in a clear and honest way.
If any rule was broken, he wants proper action to be taken.
NSUI state leader Devarala Rakesh Yadav filed an official complaint with AICTE alleging financial and procedural irregularities in a Research Promotion Scheme (RPS) grant.
The disputed AICTE grant of approximately Rs 22 lakh was sanctioned to the JNTU Institute of Science and Technology in Hyderabad on March 13, 2020.
The complaint cites non-submission of Utilisation Certificates, issues with certification of expenditure statements, and lack of proper statutory audit compliance.
The complaint was backed by observations from the State Audit Department regarding the institution's financial compliance.
AICTE confirmed the grievance has been formally noted and said documents submitted under the RPS are currently being scrutinised, with examination of records urged on August 7.
