Savitribai Dipke, who was 85, died on Saturday in her family’s village in Maharashtra.

Reports said she had been unwell for a few days.

Her grandson Abhijeet Dipke was detained by Delhi Police after his plane from Mumbai landed in Delhi.

He was travelling with two other Cockroach Janta Party activists.

They planned to protest at Jantar Mantar about voter lists and voter registration forms.

Abhijeet’s parents left for the village after hearing about Savitribai’s death.

It was not clear whether he had been told while in custody or whether he could travel for the last rites.

Police also increased security outside his home in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
