Police in Assam arrested two men in a case involving suspected sharing of information with Pakistani intelligence.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said one of the men had retired from the army but was still working for it on contract.

Police identified a 31-year-old man from Bihar, Abhishek Kumar Singh, as one person arrested in Guwahati.

They said early findings suggested he had passed secret information about security forces to a Pakistani intelligence operative.

Police recovered a phone, SIM cards and documents.

Sarma said early reports indicated the men may have been tricked into sharing information.

The suspects are expected to be questioned further by central agencies.

The investigation is still underway.
