SMC Launches Table Tennis Academy
The Siliguri Municipal Corporation is starting a new Table Tennis Academy at their indoor stadium.
This academy will help young players learn and improve their table tennis skills.
The idea was first thought of in 2021 but got delayed because of the Covid pandemic.
The academy will have around 80 players, with some training four days a week and others training three days a week.
Famous coaches and former national players will teach the players.
The stadium, which can hold up to 5,000 people, has been renovated and will have ten table tennis boards soon.
The city government will pay for most of the costs, and the players will pay a small fee.
SMC will inaugurate its Table Tennis Academy on January 24 at the SMC Indoor Stadium in Deshbandhupara.
The academy aims to nurture young table tennis players with structured training from veteran coaches and former national-level players.
Initial enrollment includes 80 paddlers, with 50 beginners and the rest of varying ranking levels.
Promising players will receive coaching four days a week, while others will train three days a week.
The academy will focus primarily on training players in the under-10 age group, with six table tennis boards currently functional and four more to be added.
