China Sought Visas Before Xi Jinping’s India BRICS Visit
Chinese President Xi Jinping is planning to visit India for a BRICS meeting.

The meeting will take place in New Delhi on September 12 and 13.
China had already asked India for visas for Xi’s team on August 27.
Xi is expected to bring 67 official delegates.

The visit is important because it is Xi’s first trip to India since 2019.

Xi is expected to spend about 24 hours in India and meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi bilaterally on Saturday evening.
Trade, market access, supply chains and the India-China border are expected to feature in the Modi-Xi discussions as relations continue to improve after the 2020 Galwan clashes.
