Trinamool students' wing seeks court permission for foundation day rally

A group of students who support a political party in India wanted to hold a big meeting in the city of Kolkata.

The group is called the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad, and it is the student wing of the Trinamool Congress party.

They wanted to hold this meeting on August 28 to celebrate the group's birthday.

Before holding a big meeting, groups usually need permission from the police.

The group sent three letters to the Kolkata Police asking for permission, but the police did not answer.

So the group went to a special court called the Calcutta High Court to ask a judge for permission.

The judge, Justice Sougata Bhattacharya, agreed to look at their request and will hear the case on August 19.

The meeting is usually held near a statue of Mahatma Gandhi on Mayo Road in the middle of Kolkata.

This year is different because the party split into three groups after an election.

The student group is part of the smaller group that still supports the former leader, Mamata Banerjee.

The court will decide if they can hold their meeting.
