Pakhare, 19, allegedly held the 16-year-old girl captive in a rented room in Nagpur's Dinghori area for over 30 hours, tying her limbs, sexually assaulting her and inflicting nearly 20 knife injuries.
Police broke open the door of the room and rescued the girl on the night of August 3.
A case has been registered against Pakhare under the POCSO Act and for kidnapping; he is in judicial custody and admitted to GMCH, where his condition is reported stable.
Police have unlocked the survivor's mobile phone and are examining chats and call records, and the seized materials will be sent for forensic analysis.
