Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath says the state is giving more attention to talented athletes.

He said this change began after he took office in 2017.

He announced that 470 athletes would receive job appointment letters in the state police.

The jobs include positions as sub-inspectors and constables.

Adityanath said athletes can use their sporting skills and also get government jobs.

He said more than 534 athletes have already been hired across government departments.

He added that 866 more are being considered for jobs.

His criticism of the system before 2017 is his account of how recruitment worked then.
