Trivedi's Dhaka Challenge: India, Bangladesh Seek Diplomatic Reset
India and Bangladesh are neighboring countries that share a long border and many close ties.
After a big political change in Bangladesh in August 2024, the two governments started trusting each other less.
Now both countries are trying to become friends again.
India sent an important politician named Dinesh Trivedi to Bangladesh to represent it, giving him a very senior role.
Bangladesh sent its own top official, Asad Alam Siam, to India.
India's leader, Narendra Modi, also invited Bangladesh's leader, Tarique Rahman, to a big meeting called the BRICS Summit in September.
Before that, Bangladesh's leader visited Malaysia and China, which showed India that Bangladesh wants many friends, not just one.
China is building ports, roads and railways across South Asia, and that worries India.
A former Bangladesh leader named Sheikh Hasina is living in India, and she says she will come back to Bangladesh in December.
Both countries hope to work together again because they need each other for trade, energy and safety.
India appointed veteran politician Dinesh Trivedi as high commissioner to Bangladesh with Cabinet rank, while Bangladesh named serving foreign secretary Asad Alam Siam as its envoy to India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman to the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, scheduled for September 12-13, in his capacity as current chair of BIMSTEC.
