Centre to Issue Silver Coin Marking Uttam Kumar Birth Centenary
The Indian government plans to make a special Rs 100 coin for actor Uttam Kumar.
The coin will celebrate 100 years since his birth.
Uttam Kumar was born on September 3, 1926.
His original name was Arun Kumar Chattopadhyay.
He was called the ‘Mahanayak’, meaning ‘great hero’.
He acted in more than 200 films, mostly in Bengali cinema.
He was also famous for working with actress Suchitra Sen.
Bengal will hold celebrations for him throughout the centenary year.
The Centre will issue a Rs 100 commemorative coin for Uttam Kumar’s birth centenary.
The coin will contain 99.9 per cent pure silver and measure 44mm in diameter.
