Karnataka Cabinet Expands to 30 Ministers, Emphasizing Social Representation
The state of Karnataka added 20 new ministers to its government, making a total of 30.
The new ministers come from many different social groups, like Lingayats, Vokkaligas, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Muslims, and others.
Only one woman is in the cabinet.
Some older party leaders were left out, which caused some people to worry about experience.
The decision was made by the Congress party’s top leaders, and the new ministers will take their oath in a ceremony in Bengaluru.
Chief Minister DK Shivakumar expanded the Karnataka cabinet by adding 20 new ministers, bringing the total to 30.
The new council includes broad social representation: 7 Lingayat, 5 Vokkaliga, 7 SC, 3 ST, 4 Muslim, 5 OBC, 1 Christian, and 1 woman minister.
Key legislative positions were filled: G. S. Patil as Speaker, AS Ponnanna as Deputy Speaker, Saleem Ahmed as Chairman, and Umashree as Deputy Chairperson.
Several senior Congress leaders were omitted, sparking debate over experience versus community representation.
The expansion was approved by Congress high command under AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, with the oath ceremony scheduled at Lok Bhavan, Bengaluru.
