Punjab Congress chief Warring challenges Bhagwant Mann for 2027 polls
A big political party in India, called the Congress, has its Punjab unit led by Amarinder Singh Raja Warring.
Warring made a big announcement: if he runs in the next Punjab state election in 2027, he wants to fight against Bhagwant Mann, the Chief Minister of Punjab.
He told his party leaders to either pick him to run against Mann or not pick him as a candidate at all.
Some people in his own party think Warring is secretly too friendly with Mann's party, the AAP.
Another Congress leader, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, even said Warring has a secret understanding with Mann.
Warring's public challenge is his way of showing people that this rumor is not true.
A different party member named Kulbir Singh Zira suggested Warring should instead run against Sukhbir Singh Badal, leader of the Akali party.
But Warring said no, because he believes beating Bhagwant Mann should be the Congress party's main goal.
Warring also called Mann the worst chief minister Punjab has ever had and blamed his government for gangster culture, drugs, and lawlessness.
The final decision about who contests which seat will be made by senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge.
Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said that if he contests the 2027 Assembly polls, it should be against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Warring urged the party leadership to field him against the AAP leader or not field him as a candidate at all.

Warring called Mann the worst-ever chief minister of Punjab, citing "extreme" gangster culture, lawlessness, and drug abuse under his government.
