UK Man Flies 6,800 Km to India for Knee Surgery
₹51 Lakh In UK Vs ₹18 Lakh In India: British Man’s Double Knee Replacement Sparks Medical Tourism Debate; Internet Reacts · news18.com

Jean Paul is a man from the UK whose knees hurt so much that walking his dogs or strolling with his wife had become hard.

His doctors said both knees needed to be replaced, but the NHS told him he would have to wait a very long time, around three years, for the operation.

So he decided to fly more than 6,800 km to India for the surgery.

The operation in the UK would have cost about £40,000, but the package in India cost only about £14,000 — and that even included flights, a hotel, meals and insurance.

Before the surgery, he lost about 19 kg to make sure he was healthy enough.

After the operation, he spent two weeks at a special recovery centre doing physiotherapy every day.

When he got home, he could walk again and went back to his evening walks along the canal with his wife and dogs.

Lots of people online talked about his story — some said it shows how affordable Indian healthcare is, while others worried it might make private hospitals in India too expensive for local people.
