Suspended Hyderabad Police Inspector Charged with Rape, Forced Abortion
A police officer in the city of Hyderabad, India, is in serious trouble.
His name is U Srinivasulu Reddy, and he used to work at the Jubilee Hills police station.
A woman said he did something very bad to her.
She said he became her friend in 2021 when she went to the police to complain about her husband.
But then, she says, he hurt her and made her end her pregnancy.
The police have now officially opened a case against him.
They listened to her complaint and recorded her statement.
The officer had already been suspended from his job a few days ago because of complaints about him.
The police say their investigation is still going on.
The Ameenpur police registered a case against suspended Jubilee Hills Inspector U Srinivasulu Reddy for rape and forcing a woman to abort.
The woman alleged the Inspector befriended her in 2021 when she came to lodge a complaint against her husband, then raped her.
Reddy allegedly forced the woman to undergo an abortion, according to her complaint.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar had placed Reddy under suspension a few days ago following allegations of serious misconduct involving a woman complainant.
The Ameenpur police confirmed an investigation is ongoing.
