Union Minister Promises Turmeric Board Office and Lab for Erode
The Union Minister for Agriculture, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, visited Erode, known as the Turmeric City, and promised to set up a regional office of the National Turmeric Board and a testing lab there.
He also said that new turmeric varieties with more curcumin will be developed, and the government will help sell turmeric online to get better prices.
The Minister also talked about making machines for harvesting and drying turmeric to help farmers.
He visited turmeric fields and met with farmers and traders to understand their problems better.
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan promised a regional office of the National Turmeric Board and an accredited testing lab in Erode, Tamil Nadu.
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) will set up the testing lab to support quality testing, research, and certification.
New turmeric varieties with higher curcumin content will be developed to meet market and medicinal requirements.
The Union government will promote turmeric sales through e-commerce platforms to widen market access and improve price realization for farmers.
Machinery for harvesting, drying, and processing turmeric will be developed to reduce labor dependence and post-harvest losses.
