Kolkata Port Expands East Asia Routes
Kolkata's Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port's Growth Surges 48.97%, Handling Record Cargo Of 21,691 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units · freepressjournal.in

The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata is thinking about adding new shipping routes to other countries in East Asia after having a lot of success with a direct shipping service to China.

This service, called the China Calcutta Service, has helped reduce costs and travel time.

The port's Haldia Dock Complex has also seen a big increase in the amount of cargo it handles, especially in November 2023, when it had its highest-ever monthly cargo handling.

The port is also working on better connections between Haldia and Kolkata, including a new direct train service called the Port-Link Express.

This could help the port handle even more cargo in the future.
